An excerpt from "Turbo Kitty" "Judy, come here, honey," Mark called to her. As Judy stepped inside the trailer, Mark said, "I know there has to be a way to capitalize on this cat's speed and her energy. But how?" "You called me inside to ask me that?" Judy asked, pretending to be mad at him. "I'm sure I don't know, Mark. However, I have confidence in your ability to figure it out. May I go back to work in my flowers, now?" She shook her head and smiled to herself, wondering if Mark was really serious. From that moment on, Turbo-Kitty was in training. Mark had not quite figured out just how to do it yet, but whatever it would be, Turbo-Kitty had to be in tip-top shape. Mark bought Turbo-Kitty a bottle of Cat-orade, and taught her to pace herself. He "clocked" her at different times of the day, and found that she did her best running early in the morning, after a good night's sleep. How can I make a dollar off this cat? How? he wondered. He talked to some friends, and learned that the nearest dog track was 300 miles away. No one had even heard of a cat-track. But, Mark was determined to make a race-cat out of Turbo-Kitty. |
